Short bio

I received my Diploma and my first Master Degree from the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of Democritus University of Thrace, in Greece. Along with my postgraduate studies, I worked as a researcher at Cultural and Educational Technology Institute (CETI/ATHENA) (Xanthi, Greece) and at DoCoMo Euro-Labs (Munich, German). For a period of 10 years, from 2010 to 2020, I worked as a research associate at Informatics and Telematics Institute (ITI) of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH) (Thessaloniki, Greece) participating in many EU and national research projects. Since 2020, I have been working as a research associate at INFALIA, a spin-off company of ITI. Recently, I received my second Master Degree on Web Intelligence from the Department of Information and Electronic Engineering of International Hellenic University, in Greece. After that, I decided to extend my master’s thesis work pursuing a Ph.D. in the area of text classification with a special focus on patent documents, titled Intelligent and Multilevel Patent Classification.

Research

Research Interests

After all these years of involvement in many research projects, I acquired competences in several research fields, including (but not limited to):
Internet Protocols, Network Simulation, Ontologies, Semantic Engineering, Linked Data, Content Management, Information Retrieval, Dialogue Management, Social Media Analysis.Currently, I pursue a Ph.D. in the area of text classification with a special focus on patent documents that are long technical documents having a quite distinctive language and structure while the classification scheme that is usually used contains thousand of codes. So, my recent research interests include:
(multi-label, long document, hierarchical) Text Classification, Information Retrieval (IR), Natural Language Processing (NLP), Machine Learning (ML), Deep Learning (DL) and Ensemble models.

Over the last years, I worked in many research projects, especially in the design, development, analysis, and evaluation phases. Currently, I work in DeepCube H2020 research project and I run an HFRI project (doctorate scholarship) associated with my Ph.D. dissertation.
